Thomas Flood & Bridget McGovern
We believe Thomas and Bridget were from County Longford or Westmeath, Ireland. Although, my grandmother Mary Agatha insisted the Floods were from County Mayo. We know they had at least two children. There is a persistent rumor that there may have been as many as ten boys born to Thomas & Bridget, these are the only children we know about:

Patrick (b. 1838 - d. 21 Jan 1925 at 652 Herkimer St., Brooklyn) Patrick retired as Stablemaster for the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company at their New Lots Yards after 46 years of service. On 25 Nov 1869 Patrick married Mary Ratchford (b. 1850, Sligo, Ireland - d. 25 Mar 1886 at 276 Herkimer St., Brooklyn) at Our Lady of Victory Church, Brooklyn 25 Nov 1869. All their children were baptised at this church as well. Together they had nine children which are listed below. Mary died following complications as a result of the birth of her daughter Anna. Records indicate she immigrated to New York in 1867. After his youngest son William married, Patrick became married for the second time, to Hattie Fox. Hattie was also known as "Masie" and "Mamie". She was the daughter of John Fox who was a dairyman who lived and worked at 192 Herkimer St from 1875 - 1884.

Although we have not definitively identified each person in the photo to the right, it does appear that the leftmost gent is our William A. Flood with his arm around Mary Agatha Fox. Mary has a prize ribbon of some sort pinned to her blouse and William is holding what looks like a small figurine of a head. It may have been take at a boardwalk photographer's in Coney Island as the head looks like the famous Luna Park character. This photo has no date attached to it but would seem to be taken about 1900.
On 18 Oct 1899 at Our Lady of Victory Church, Brooklyn, William married Mary Agatha Fox (b. 1878 and d. Dec 1963). Mary Agatha Fox was the daughter of Michael Fox and Mary Agnes BurkeMary was a midwife, as was her mother Mary Agnes Burke.
From the time of their marriage through 1900, they lived at 1387 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.
Sometime later they lived in a house adjoining the business. At the time of his death William Flood owned a livery and stable and sold coal and ice at 652 Herkimer Street near Utica Avenue on the site of todays "Boys & Girls High School" in the Weeksville section of Brooklyn.

Michael Fox & Mary Agnes Burke
Michael Fox : We know he either abandoned his wife and children or perhaps he was 'asked to leave'. Mary Agnes Burke was a midwife and either put her children in an orphanage or had them taken from her and placed there. It is important to note here, that the 1870 Federal Census list Mary Agnes Burke's husband as "William Fox, marble polisher, (b. 1853)". It is only later, on his daughter, Mary Agatha Fox's death certificate, is her father listed as "Michael Fox"Mary Agatha Fox, (b. 1875 - d.
